Trekking Fonias canyon
Fonias canyon is an outstanding destination for those who are looking for an active adventure in a superb natural environment. Located in the island of Samothraki in Northern Greece, Fonias canyon is considered to be a marvelous trek.
Samothraki can be reached by boat within 2 hours (from the port of Alexandroupolis). The canyon is located near a small village called Therma, in northern Samothraki.
The region is a magnificent natural paradise, which consists of dozens of routes through trees, rocks, and waterfalls. Trekking the canyon of Fonias takes approximately 3 to 4 hours, depending on the experience of the visitor. The first part of the route is easy and accessible by everyone who enjoys walking in a unique natural pathway. It is an unforgettable walk under the shadow of enormous trees, which lasts 30 to 40 minutes. As soon as trekkers complete this route, they reach the very first waterfall.
Having reached the first waterfall, trekkers are required to start climbing on rocks. This is where the action begins. The rest of the route leads to the top of the canyon, where visitors enjoy spectacular views of natural scenery. In order to complete the route, trekkers must be experienced, as it is a strenuous and dangerous activity.
